I wanted to share some highlights from my summer trip to wine country in Sonoma. The wine region there is different then Napa and in my opinion the wines and vineyards are a little more customer centric. I did some great Tastings with my sister who lives there.
We stopped at Heldsberg and hit Williamson Wines then hit a new favorite of mine Kunde wines (see the castle). I was so impressed I joined the wine club after a tasting a $200 a bottle signature Cabernet on the house. Having lived in Germany for nine years the German history and taste of Kunde stand out! Kunde Family Winery is known for their authenticity. Their first crush was in 1904, and they’re one of the oldest bonded wineries in California, using bond number 202, which was first put to use by their Great Grandfather Louis Kunde in the early 1900’s. Now, the fourth and fifth generation of Kundes are successfully carrying on the Kunde Family Legacy. The Kunde Family takes pride in their heritage. From the vineyards planted as far back as 1882 to their renowned Hereford cattle, people come from all over the world just to get a glimpse and tour the historic and beautiful Kunde Estate and destination inspired Kunde Family Winery in Kenwood. The last stop was Sebastiani wines. A quaint place with a nice selection of wines. After 20 tastes, at three locations it's safe to say I was "in the zone". Next time you think wine country step outside the box and drive a county over to the Russian river valley and taste some of California's finest wines!
